今回はYUNGBLUDの和訳です🌸
2001年イギリス、YUNGBLUDの故郷でもあるSheffieldという街で実際に起きた悲しいお話を元にした曲です。
その街に住むジェイソンという若者は彼女のクレアと一年以上交際をしていました。ある晴れた春の日、彼はPark Hillという公営住宅団地にある連絡通路に『Clare Middleton I Love you, WILL U MARRY ME』とスプレーしました。
彼はクレアを映画デートに誘い、目的地に着く前に彼女にこのメッセージを見せます。返事はもちろん『イエス』。しかし色々な事情が重なり、結局彼らは破局しクレアは別の男性と結婚し癌を患い、プロポーズ数年後に亡くなってしまいます。

普通なら公共の建物への落書きは直ぐに消されますが、なんと街の宣伝のために使われるようになったのです。50年代に建てられて以来、老朽化し住民も減っていた団地のような集合住宅地に注目を集めようとUrban Splashという企業が使用を決定したそうです。もちろん個人名である『Clare Middleton』は無視して、プロポーズの部分だけがライトアップされました。Tシャツなどのグッズが販売され、あの人気ロックバンドArctic Monkeysも地元愛を表現しようとしたのか、ライブで着用。ジェイソンが失恋やホームレスになり苦しんでいる側で彼のプロポーズはこんな風に使われていたというわけです。
